1. Initial consultation
Within a 10 mile radius of Edinburgh city centre the initial consultation is FREE. Beyond that radius I charge a £30 consultation fee, which is refundable when you commission me for a garden design. After that meeting I will give you a written estimate. At This stage the 25% of the design fee is payable.
2. A survey of the garden
Once you have approved the fee I will arrange a survey of the garden. It usually takes 2-4 hours and is charged at £30 per hour. For a very large or complicated site I can arrange a full survey to be undertaken by a specialist company. Their fee will be payable directly by you.3. Sketch plan and detailed plan
These are charged at £30 per hour. I will present 2 sketches for you to choose from and then develop detailed plan. As a guide, a plan for 200m² garden usually takes between 12-15 hours and for 500m² can take 15-20 hours. Obviously this will all depend on the complexity of the garden.Partial garden designs are also possible.
Upon completion of the design work the final payment will then be requested.
4. Planting plan
Planting plan showing the numbers and location of the all plants will be quoted for separately as it's cost depends on the planting areas. You will also receive a Planting schedule listing all plants by type, variety, pot size and characteristics so that you have the necessary information for nurseries and contractors. An hourly rate is charged for the following: significant redraws after the plans have been agreed, consultancy, construction diagrams, project management of contractors, site visits.
I would advise that you consider budgeting your garden between 5-10% of the house value and treat it as a financial investment. A well designed garden will not only be more attractive, but will also increase your living space and value of your propery.
