Whether you want to build a new garden, refresh your landscape or just need planting plan you can implement yourself, I provide a comprehensive design service which includes:

- free initial meeting
- free initial rough design (2 options)
- final design
- planting plan (with plant images and care details)
- 2-3 additional sketches for the outline design
- construction drawings

1. An initial meeting

This first meeting (free within 10 miles of Edinburgh) is to discuss the changes you have in mind, and to allow me to get a clear picture of the existing garden or landscape, and what you hope to achieve from a new design. We can then create a design brief to capture the ideas discussed, including an idea of your budget.
Meeting usually takes 1-3 hours (depending on size and complexity of the garden). I will contact you shortly after this first meeting confirming the brief, my design fee, and terms of engagement.

2. A survey of the garden

Once you have approved the fee I will arrange a survey of the garden. This mainly involves taking measurements and noting changes in levels. If it is a very large or complicated site I can arrange a full survey to be undertaken by a specialist company. Their fee will be payable directly by you.

3. Outline design

After approximately 2-3 weeks I will deliver proposed layout of the garden indicating materials to be used. I will also provide some sketches or mood boards to help you visualise the finished design. This is an opportunity for you to look at the design in detail and make comments before design is finalised.

4. Final design

I will present detailed final plan as well as construction drawing showing all necessary dimensions. Some additional construction drawings for bespoke elements may be provided with your prior agreement.

5. Planting plan (priced separately)

The planting plan is designed once the final garden design plan has been agreed and it can take 1-2 weeks for it to be developed. Plan will be based on chosen garden style (small, traditional, contemporary or whatever your imagination tells you), site specific conditions and the level of maintenance you require.
I will supply pictures and plant-care information for all plants in addition to above.
This planting plan will be quoted for separately as its cost is dependent on the planting area, and the style of planting required. It will be accompanied by a detailed Plant Schedule listing all plants by type, variety and pot size so that you have the correct information for nurseries and contractors.

6. Construction

Some clients already have their own landscaper, some decide to do the work themselves and others will need to find some local contractor. I can help you to choose from 2-3 bidding landscapers.
Alternatively, you may decide to have the garden constructed in stages. I can help you in planning the best way to divide the work so you gain the most from your garden as quickly as possible.

7. Project monitoring

Project monitoring is when I carry out an agreed number of site visits, as a design consultant, to ensure that the design is being adhered to and any necessary clarification is provided.
